Sigurd Olson Listening Point trees at sunset Minnesota

There is a world of life and spontaneity
that exists all around me
apart from my knowledge and awareness

Its harmony invites me,
its fellowship awaits me,
its mystery beckons me.

It is not remote or too far away,
yet I rush along, heedless of its call.

Yet whenever I return to the forest,
I discover there a timeless presence
whose eternal hand welcomes me.

At peace, I am no longer isolated,
the forest’s life envelops me
and gives me back my own.
