chipmunk, woods, Grant Park, South Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Quiet my chipmunk mind,
focus my darting heart,
open wide my eyes.

Teach me to wait silently,
untroubled and without fear,
to be a part of the whole.

Grant me but a glimpse
of the disarming similarities
and the frightening differences.

And in those large dark eyes
let me see myself more clearly,
so like and unlike the forest’s beauty.
